Title: Senior Analytical Chemist

Location: BioCity, Nottingham

Salary: £25K – £30K (depending on experience)

Description:

If you have at least 2 years’ experience of working in the area of pharmaceutical HPLC analysis ideally of parenteral drugs in a GMP / GLP laboratory this could be a great opportunity to grow your career.

Working as part of the Analytical and QC team you will perform a key laboratory based role in the chemical analysis of licenses parenteral drugs according to standard stability testing requirements including: ICH/USP/EP and NHS yellow cover document requirements, according to GMP / GLP standards.

In this role you will work closely with and report to the Quality Assurance director ensuring ongoing product quality and adherence to FDA/MHRA guidelines and the internal Quality Management System. You will be expected to liaise with other scientific staff in response to any OOS results, investigating and closing out non-conformances.

As senior Analytical Chemist will be expected to have some supervisory capacity as you will be responsible for the day to day operation of a small laboratory team and be required to act as mentor to junior analysts, problem solve and provide basic training when required.

BSTL performs contract research in to parenteral drug stability in different types of container systems and carries out research on medical devices. BSTL welcomes applications from analytical chemists with a strong HPLC background who have experience of and or a desire to work in research and development and have understanding of regulatory requirements and quality systems as they relate to a contract testing laboratory. BSTL actively publishes scientific journal articles and contributes to the advancement of science in the area of practical pharmacy and as such a senior Analytical Chemist would be required to participate and contribute to the research outputs of the company.

Accountabilities and responsibilities for the role include:

  • Analysis of samples using HPLC, FTIR, UV/VIS, GC and other analytical chemistry test methodologies.
  • Investigation of non-conforming samples, CAPAs, data evaluation and reporting.
  • Method Development & Method Validation supporting stability studies.
  • Write cGMP Quality documents including Standard Operating Procedures, laboratory equipment procedures and investigational protocols.
  • Be responsible for the operation, maintenance, training delivery as an expert and maintain operating procedure for at least one piece of laboratory equipment.
  • Author and approve (where appropriate) STPs and SOPs within the analytical laboratory.
  • Perform technology transfer (method transfers) and critically evaluate data.
  • Line management of direct reports.
  • Leading the Stability Services team to continually deliver a quality service on-time every time.
  • Formulating and executing operational staff training and development plans.
  • Formulating and implementing operational policies and control procedures.
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient execution of a variety of technical projects, from project initiation to closure.
  • Monitoring human and equipment resource to ensure current and future capacity is aligned with the business requirements.
  • To prepare and review analytical protocols/reports and to perform raw data verification.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to analytical teams as required especially in HPLC method development.

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 2 years’ previous industry experience working within a GMP/GLP compliant analytical laboratory within a pharmaceutical or healthcare company for the Analyst role.
  • Significant previous experience of operating and troubleshooting HPLC systems (>2 years).
  • A BSc in a relevant chemical science is required as a minimum, MSc, MChem, MSci or HND/HNC in a relevant chemical science if in combination with at least three years industrial experience as a senior analyst.
  • It is essential that you are customer focused and have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as autonomously managing your own workload.

Preference in the senior role will be given to candidates that can demonstrate project management skills and have managed multiple complex projects ensuring delivery to time, budget and quality.

  • Contribute to and operate within cGMP Quality systems at all times.
  • Be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and maintain operating procedures for the HPLCs.
  • To contribute to and help prepare and review analytical protocols/reports and to perform raw data verification.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues as required especially in HPLC method development and sample analysis.

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 1 year’s previous industry experience using HPLC and working within a GMP/GLP or other regulated analytical laboratory in an Analytical chemistry/Analyst role.
  • A BSc in a relevant chemical based, science or ideally higher qualification such as MSc, MChem, MSci. Candidates with HND/HNC in a relevant chemical science who can demonstrate significant industrial experience as an analyst are encouraged to apply.
